Visit to ABB in Daresbury

I had a fascinating visit to a Daresbury company recently which is on the very forefront of developing some truly revolutionary technology.

ABB specialises in a range of advanced digital tech used in advanced industries such as robotics and vehicle electrification.

It recently went into partnership with FIA Formula E Championship. Formula E, as the world’s first fully electric international FIA motorsport series, serves as a competitive platform to test and develop e-mobility-relevant electrification and digitalization technologies.

The firm has also recently unveiled a robot designed to work hand-in-hand with humans on a production line. YuMi’s advanced programming means it can be taught a process just by being physically guided through it by a person, eliminating the need for complex, time-consuming code-based instructions.

As well as playing a big part in the development of new technologies, ABB is also actively working with young people to develop their skills and interest in the tech sector.

One example is the recent VEX Robotics competition for schools which it sponsored.

ABB has 11 sites across the country employing 3,000 people and has its HQ at Daresbury Park.

I’ve said all along I want to see green energy and high-tech jobs in the constituency and this is really one of the crown jewels. I've pledged to help the company in any way I can, so we can hopefully see continued growth and more quality jobs brought to Weaver Vale.
