As a passionate supporter of the great British pub – and someone who likes the occasional ale – it was great to visit the team at The Bowling Green pub in Northwich recently.
It’s had £230,000 refurb after closing its doors earlier this year and created 12 new jobs in the constituency.
There’s something very special about the British pub and it’s been a difficult time for the industry this last decade. When one closes and reopens there’s always the worry there that it might lose its character, but after chatting to Josh and Dean – who himself is a proud Northwich lad – I was reassured that this will not be the case here, with people able to enjoy a meal while regular punters just pop in for a drink with their friends.
They’re both passionate about making a go of the venture and were also eager to express their views about the need for further retail regeneration in Northwich – something I back wholeheartedly.
And as someone who grew up in a pub the pressure was on when they asked me to pour a pint – but I like to think I didn’t do too badly!
