I recently met with Alex Burrows from Alstom UK and Ireland to discuss plans which could have a big impact of jobs in the constituency.
The company wants to develop a North West ‘rail cluster’ for advanced manufacturing, engineering and low carbon energy by providing a bridge for SMEs, innovators and large and small suppliers to drive innovation and growth.
Alstom currently employs 3,200 people across 12 industrial sites with an established presence in the North West stretching back for over 150 years. They design, build and maintain trains and rolling stock for some of the most high profile rail companies in the UK, as well as being involved in construction and installation of railway signalling, systems and infrastructure.
At the meeting I said I would help the company move its plans forward and will be encouraging them to look to Weaver Vale for both skilled jobs and apprentices.
