Myself and Labour colleague and Halton MP Derek Twigg will meet local health chiefs to seek assurances over the future of Halton Hospital.
Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has unveiled plans to create a £40m health and wellbeing campus in Runcorn.
The scheme would involve moving operating theatres, wards, clinics and services currently available at Halton Hospital to facilities built in an extension to the neighbouring Cheshire and Merseyside Treatment Centre on the same site.
As part of the plans, the Trust said all surgery currently carried out at Halton Hospital would be transferred to the new site, while a new Runcorn Urgent Care Centre would also be constructed.
The development would also involve the demolition of some buildings, which has understandably caused some concern among residents.
As elected MPs we have a duty to our constituents to ensure that these plans don’t negatively impact upon them, and we’ll be seeking reassurances from the Trust that no services will be lost from the local area.
Importantly, we’ll also be seeking assurances that there is no risk of any of those services being outsourced or privatised.
