The contaminated blood scandal is one of the biggest scandals of our time, with thousands of people infected with illnesses such as HIV and hepatitis after being given contaminated transfusions in the 70s and 80s, including members of my constituency. This has been the subject of a lengthy enquiry to try and get justics for those affected.

Worryingly, the Cabinet Office was supposed to email all departments in April asking them to preserve all relevent information related to this contaminated blood inquiry’, but it transpires this email was not sent due to an ‘IT issue’.

A follow up emal was sent on June 11, but I pressed the minister on whether he is absolutely certain no valuable information was destroyed in that time.
