When I was on the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee (HCLG) I called for an investigation into the practice of leaseholding.
The outcome of that investigation has now been published and I’m optimistic that these findings will prove an important step in the journey of getting justice for those caught up in this scandal.
The committee said developers and agents had been treating homeowners as a ‘source of profit’. It has also called for a complete overhaul of the system.
Significantly, the HCLG has also called for the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to investigate miss-selling claims and said it should also make suggestions regarding compensation to those affected.
This has been consistently one of the biggest issues raised with me by constituents.
I will now be writing to the government and asking it to take these findings onboard and finally take action to stop this grossly unfair practice.
