Today is the 20th anniversary of Labour introducing the National Minimum Wage.
One of our party’s proudest achievements, it had a huge impact on the lives of the lowest paid workers in our country.
Up until this point, low-paid workers had seen their earnings grow more slowly than the average worker, no matter how well the country’s economy was doing at the time – the minimum wage reversed this trend.
It’s the legacy of transformative policies such as this that make me proud to be a Labour member and a Labour MP.
