I’m delighted to report that my Private Members Bill to cut the cost of school uniforms made it through its latest stage in Parliament.
The pandemic has slowed progress on the bill moving through its various stages but it’s now back on track.
Uniforms can be a massive strain on family finances at the best of times, but with the pressures caused by the pandemic I believe it’s more important now than ever to keep these costs under control.
I’ve been contacted by people not just in Weaver Vale, but up and down the country who’ve told me how much these costs have spiraled in recent years, giving them sleepless nights and with some children having to go into school without the correct uniform.
The scale of the problem is illustrated by the fact I’ve had support on this from MPs right across the House.
This Bill now moves to its next stage and then the Lords, if successful it will then become law and families can start seeing the benefits.
I’d like to thank everyone who’s supported this so far, and who’ve asked friends and family who live outside Weaver Vale to contact their MPs and ask them to back it too, it’s made a huge difference.
