The Tories are spreading fear about the future of Frodsham Leisure Centre and library as part of their byelection campaign.
What set the hares running was a CWaC consultation document that described the centre as ‘not fit for purpose’ with talk of ‘maximising the use of community facilities and external funding opportunities’.
But the mood music from council leader Louise Gittins now sounds very positive after hearing the strong message from the community – backed by myself – that Frodsham deserves first class leisure, community facilities and library services.
Whether this means a brand new facility or a refurbishment of existing amenities remains to be seen. The Tories are calling for a swimming pool but never made that investment when they were in power.
I spoke at a virtual meeting called by CWaC to establish a working group to help develop future provision. I have a personal interest as a Frodsham resident whose family uses the leisure centre in normal times.
For my part I have promised to work with all partners and use my influence in Parliament to support constructive plans if external funding is needed.
