Riverside House at the gateway to Northwich has been an eyesore for far too long.
It’s a blot on the townscape that that gives off all the wrong signals given the efforts being made on regeneration.
In response to concerns from residents and local councillors, I sought reassurances from Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) around safety and for the authority to consider a Compulsory Purchase Order to trigger renewal and investment.
The CEO says an initial visual inspection has revealed nothing immediately dangerous but the owners will be asked to carry out a full structural survey and undertake any repairs.
Pressure is now mounting for the owners and CWaC to get around the table to discuss a possible deal – which needs to involve local stakeholders if it comes to fruition.
I hope my intervention can help break the logjam for the good of the town.
