It’s fantastic news Runcorn town centre – in the neighbouring constituency of Halton – is to receive £23.6m from the Government’s Town Deal Fund.
This is not only good news for the old town but will benefit the wider Runcorn area including my constituency.
Praise obviously goes to my good friend and neighbour Derek Twigg MP who has been an active member of the Town Deal Board since it formed in January 2020.
Derek said: “The aim was securing the investment to realise the potential of Runcorn town centre, through things like fully utilising the potential of the main line station with the creation of the Station Quarter, to finally make Unlock Runcorn’s plans to restore the locks and the link back to the Bridgewater Canal a reality and building a stronger town centre.”
Adrian Fillingham, chair of the Runcorn Town Deal Board, said: “We are very pleased with the announcement and are now looking forward to continue working with Halton Council, who will be responsible for delivering a range of projects to support our communities, businesses, and especially young people to provide a brighter future in Runcorn.”
