Mike Amesbury MP attending the Leaseholders Together Rally in Liverpool.
I attended demos in Liverpool and London demanding justice for people trapped in unsafe homes.
Government must fix dangerous buildings at no cost to homeowners, as promised at least 17 times!
The building safety scandal was exposed after flammable cladding in the Grenfell Tower fire led to the deaths of 72 people.
Homes bought in good faith in this region and across the country are worthless fire traps that are unsellable.
Government should be sending the repair bill to the unscrupulous operators who caused this mess. Instead it is expecting many leaseholders to pay by taking out loans for tens of thousands of pounds.
I stood alongside the likes of Julie Fraser, founder of Liverpool Cladiators, who bought her two-bed apartment at The Decks in Runcorn to give her security in retirement only to find the block is covered in flammable cladding.
The demos also raised awareness around the rip-off charges and ground rents faced by millions of existing leaseholders who won’t be helped by Government reforms.
