It seems we’re back to the Tory sleaze of the 90s and cash for questions to the tune of £100,000 per year in the case of former minister Owen Paterson.
Mr Paterson was forced to resign as an MP after being found to have broken the rules by repeatedly lobby ministers on behalf of companies paying him these vast sums.
But that was only following a public backlash after Boris Johnson tried to protect his mate by ordering Tory MPs to rally round and protect him.
Let’s not pull our punches. The response from Johnson in trying to trash the standards process put in place to deal with that corruption exposes the Conservatives for what they are.
I’m sorry to share a Chamber with Conservative MPs who would not do share the sense of probity in high office that the public expects and deserves.
