While delighted my Private Member’s Bill to slash the cost of school uniform across England is now law, there’s more work to be done!

Statutory guidance resulting from the new law was recently issued to schools with compliance expected by September 2022.

👉Uniform policies must give the highest priority to cost and value for money.

👉Schools must now keep branded clothing items to a minimum.

👉Single supplier arrangements must be avoided unless regular tendering competitions are run where more than one company can compete for the contract.

But I won’t be resting on my laurels.  I want to work with others to see what we can do about VAT on certain items of school uniform to lower costs still further.

Could we have a return to grants to assist hard-pressed families with buying school uniform?

There are some schools out there already leading the way such as Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy (OBA) in Runcorn.
