Humbled to see the work of staff and volunteers at Northwich-based Cheshire Food Hub who are tackling food poverty across our area this Christmas.

A total of 400 volunteers put together 3,300 food boxes to support youngsters on free school meals in Cheshire West, Cheshire East and Halton during the festive holiday.

The food hub was set up by the Changing Lives Together charity in July 2020, assisting Cheshire West & Chester Council, Welcome Net and Feeding Britain to support local food groups through the Covid-19 lockdowns.

I thanked volunteers but told them I hoped one day I wouldn’t need to thank them because everyone should have the right to food.

I also popped into to see Mid Cheshire Foodbank, on the same site, which is entirely reliant on volunteers and donations.

Serving the Northwich and Winsford areas, the foodbank is also doing some Sterling work in assisting those in food crisis or food poverty.
