The hollowness of Government’s promises over Levelling Up have been exposed in what has been dubbed the ‘great train robbery’.
Northern Powerhouse Rail was cancelled after plans to connect Manchester and Leeds with high-speed rail was abandoned.
Leeds was also let down through the axing of the eastern leg of HS2.
Meanwhile, in my constituency we have Northwich Railway Station which is so neglected it partially collapsed in May. It’s a miracle nobody was killed or injured.
To me, the rebuilding of the station next year presents the perfect opportunity to improve accessibility given the far platform is out of bounds to wheelchair users and those with mobility problems.
It was also the perfect opportunity for the Tories to ‘build back better’ to coin a phrase. My pleas to Transport Secretary Grant Shapps and PM Johnson have so far been ignored.
But I refuse to give up on the fight to ensure disabled people are not treated as second class citizens.
