Hopefully we will soon see the arrival of the wrecking ball to demolish the blot on the landscape that is East Lane House in Runcorn.

About time too after so many years of dereliction!

I welcome the recent decision of Halton Council’s planning committee to allow redevelopment of the plot with a £62m project including homes, a hotel and care home.

When I was elected in 2017 I said something had to be done about ‘the eyesore’. This is another step in that direction.

I am looking forward to seeing renewal and regeneration of the area.

The developer has already invited me on a site visit to mark the start of demolition and it’s great to hear work will get underway in the near future.
