I’m delighted a Ukranian family has been able to join relatives in Northwich where the community has opened its arms and heart to them.
My team and I secured visas for Hanna Shakula, together with daughters Viktoriia, 15 and Anastasiia, six, just before the Russian invasion.
They are now safe but distressed having left behind the woman’s husband Valeriy and his parents as well as other relatives and friends.
Valeriy must stay to defend their country but it’s something he does willingly and has signed up for the Army reservists.
Hanna, her daughters and sister Nataliya – who lives in Hartford with husband Brian – joined a vigil in solidarity with Ukraine, held in Northwich town centre, where they received a round of applause.
Meanwhile, an appeal for donations to be sent out to Ukraine and fleeing refugees on the Polish border has been generously supported by the community. A unit at Barons Quay has been inundated with food, clothing, toiletries, medical supplies and sanitary products.
