I found out recently that along with nearly 300 colleagues (and former colleagues), I’ve been banned from entering Russia over my support for Ukrainian independence in the face of Putin’s invasion.
I’ve appeared on a list of 287 MPs (although some have now left Parliament) released by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as someone who ‘took the most active part in the establishment of Russian sanctions’.
To be honest, it’s an odd list, with colleagues who have been at the forefront of the push for Russian sanctions not named. But I’m seeing it as a badge of honour – I stand with Ukraine and with those in Russia who oppose the war.
I’ve spoken up plenty of times in Parliament urging the Government to crack down hard on Russia and provide greater help to Ukraine – yesterday’s news certainly won’t stop me from continuing to do that!
