About Me

In 2017, I was proudly elected as the Member of Parliament for Weaver Vale after winning the seat from the Conservatives.

Since then and after another snap election in 2019, I have been doing all I can to represent my constituents both in Parliament and the community.

I have been fortunate enough to serve in a number of positions throughout my time in Parliament as Shadow Employment Minister, Shadow Housing Minister and Shadow Local Government Minister.

In 2020, I introduced a Private Member’s Bill aimed at reducing the cost of school uniforms. Despite the hurdles, the Bill became law in 2021 and will be enforced from September 2022.

My Labour politics are shaped by my working class background. I passionately believe where there is a wall of injustice, it needs to be knocked down.

When I was elected in 2017, I was clear I would put Weaver Vale first with a particular focus on those most in need. Providing a strong voice in Parliament and the community.

Before entering Parliament, I was a city councillor in Manchester for 11 years and served as Executive Member for Culture and Leisure from 2008 to 2012, helping to deliver projects like the National Football Museum to the city.

During my time as a councillor, I also served as a director of City South Manchester Housing Trust, an award-winning social enterprise providing affordable housing in South Manchester.

Outside of politics, I’ve spent the majority of my working career as a Careers Advisor after returning to education as a mature student. My interest in housing and careers advice has provided a great influence on my work as a Parliamentarian.

I live in the constituency with my family. When not out and about working, I enjoy supporting my club Man United and attending indie gigs.
